In a significant move toward modernization, the State of South Dakota is preparing to shift from manual, query-based financial reporting to a real-time, cloud-based system through Project BISON. Powered by Oracle Cloud Fusion, the new BISON ERP system is scheduled to go live in July 2027 and will mark a major step forward in how the State manages its finances.
Currently, compiling reports can require time-consuming manual data entry, reliance on batch processing, and complex reconciliation. With BISON, the State finance team will have access to real-time data, automated workflows, and dynamic dashboards—all of which will provide a comprehensive view of the State’s financial health.
After seeing a demonstration of the new capabilities, one agency employee shared, “Reporting capabilities will streamline the process with real-time reports right at our hands.”
But this transformation goes beyond just technology. Real-time reporting means faster, more informed budgeting decisions, improved compliance, and the ability to proactively identify trends and risks. With data integrity and accessibility at the core of the new system, the State of South Dakota will be empowered to focus on strategic planning and resource allocation—delivering improved services to citizens with greater transparency and accountability.
