Applying for a License

If you are applying for or obtaining a South Dakota driver license or ID card for the first time, you must apply in person at a South Dakota Driver Licensing location. You may walk-in to any driver exam station during their normal hours of operation, or you can skip waiting in line and schedule an appointment!  

To prepare, make sure you have the required documents and a completed license application form. Electronic, digital, or stamped signatures are not allowed on the application form.
