Identification Cards

An identification card is an official document that can be used to validate your identity if you’re a non-driver or don’t have a South Dakota Driver’s License. There’s no age requirement for an ID card.

To apply for an identification card, you may schedule an appointment to visit an exam station or walk in to any open driver exam station.  You’ll need to fill out an application (see Documents section below) and provide a few required documents.

If you’re under age 21 with less than five years until your 21st birthday, your ID card will expire 30 days after your 21st birthday.

A replacement (or duplicate) ID card may be requested online or by mail once every 10 years.
