The Rapid City District Office is responsible for suppression, management, and investigations of all wildland fires on state and private lands in Meade and Pennington counties of Western South Dakota. This District is a complex area with a large urban interface component.

Rapid City has seen a large influx of people moving into the area in the last 5 years, contributing to a year-round fire season.

The Rapid City District Office staffs three Type 6 wildland engines and one Type 3 wildland engine.
