Applying for a Driver License, Driving Permit, or Non-Driver Identification (ID) Card

If you are applying for or obtaining a South Dakota driver license or ID card for the first time, you must apply in person at a South Dakota Driver Licensing location. You may walk-in to any driver exam station during their normal hours of operation, or you can skip waiting in line and schedule an appointment!

You will need to provide the required documents and a completed license application form (see links to English and Spanish application forms below).  Electronic, digital, or stamped signatures are not allowed on the application form.

You will also need to pay the required fee (visit our fees page) and have your photo taken.
