The South Dakota Victims’ Services Program is now accepting applications on behalf of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) for one-time state general funds, as appropriated by the 2025 Legislature through House Bill 1221 (HB 1221). A total of $5 million is available to nonprofit organizations providing direct services to victims in the State of South Dakota.
House Bill 1221 allocates funding for victims’ services provided by nonprofit organizations in South Dakota and was signed into law by Governor Larry Rhoden on March 31, 2025.
This funding opportunity is guided by a Letter of Intent issued by the Joint Committee on Appropriations (JCA) and is intended to support critical services for victims throughout South Dakota.

➢ Necessary – Are the costs incurred necessary to achieve the program goal?
General Monitoring Activity:
SDVS applies a risk-based approach to monitoring, in which all subrecipients receive a baseline level of ongoing general oversight, with additional monitoring conducted as needed based on assessed risk to ensure proper use of funds and successful program outcomes.
