Reminders for renewal applicants:

- All certificates expire July 1 of the expiration year.
- Your certificate does not become invalid until October 1 of the year of expiration. This allows for review of your documents and processing time.
- Renewal requirements have not changed.
- It is best practice to submit your application and required documents by June 30th, prior to your expiration date.
- Current processing time is about 8-10 weeks.
- You must log into the mySD.gov to access the applications.
If you have never been issued a SD Certificate, you will start with the Initial Educator Application. You must first create an Educator Portal to access the application. Use the helpful guides found on the Certification Website: https://doe.sd.gov/certification/

- Documents: Do not submit documents that were previously submitted. Read the specific FAQs if you are in doubt.

- Missing Degrees/Majors: The system is experiencing a display issue; your previous confirmed degrees have not been lost. A fix is coming soon. When it is fixed, your degree will show on your application, Educator Profile and Educator 411.

- Transcripts: Our office downloads a ‘batch’ of transcripts weekly and then uploads to each existing Educator Profile. Due to the volume of transcripts received, you may notice a delay in adding it to your record.

- Comments: In-application comments are reviewed when your application is reviewed. This is not a live chat box.
- Checking the status of your application: Please utilize the “view status” button in the Educator Portal for your application for progress.
