SD Arts Council Interim Grant

This grant for up to $1,000 is available any time of the year for organizations or educators to support special arts activities, projects, or timely opportunities that are not part of the organization’s regular programming. 

This special project grant is designed to help you act quickly, test new ideas, or respond to a unique need in your organization, school or community.

Activities must take place before June 30, 2027.

ELIGIBILITY

Organizations

  • South Dakota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits in good standing
  • Units of state or local government
  • Federally recognized tribal governments

Educators (Special Needs)

  • K–12 teachers in public, private, or tribal nonprofit schools  
  • Homeschool teachers within a 501(c)(3) association (must serve multiple students)  
  • You do not need to be an arts specialist  
  • You apply as an individual, not your school  
  • Funds are paid directly to you

Who Cannot Apply

  • Colleges and universities  
  • Other post-secondary institutions or instructors  
  • Statewide Services Grant recipients  
FUNDING & ELIGIBLE USES

Organizations 

  • Covers up to 50% of project costs (max $1,000)  
  • Requires a dollar-for-dollar match  

Educators 

  • Covers project costs up to $1,000  
  • No match required

  • Special arts projects or events  
  • Transportation for students or individuals with disabilities  
  • Guest artists or expert support  
  • Professional development  
  • Arts curriculum development  
  • Classroom supplies or technology  
  • Student field trips to arts experiences  
HOW TO APPLY
  • Complete and submit the application through our digital platform, AdobeSign. APPLY HERE
  • Submit at least 30 days before your project start date.  
  • Attach required documents in the form or email to: kathryn.vandel@state.sd.us  

Educator-Specific Instructions 

  • You are applying as an individual, not your school.
  • Enter your name under “Applicant Organization”  
  • Payment will be issued directly to you  
REQUIRED MATERIALS

All Applicants 

  • Completed application form  
  • Grant narrative (up to 3 pages) including:  
    • Project description  
    • Why funding is needed  
    • Who benefits and how  
    • Outcomes and how success will be measured  
  • Budget with clear cost estimates  
  • Optional support materials (lesson plans, images, letters, etc.)  

Educators Only 

  • Resume required  
AFTER YOUR PROJECT
  • A short final report is due within 30 days of project completion.  
  • The report form will be provided with your award.  
  • Future funding depends on completion of this step.
